Pronation and Supination

A neutral foot strike occurs when you neither over pronate or supinate.

It is when the foot strikes in an effective, efficient manner and typically leads to the least amount of injuries while running or walking.

If your foot is not in its neutral foot strike, it can create problems to the rest of your body. There are two strike your feet can have:

Pronation

Pronation is when your arch collapses inwards when taking a step. When there is too much of an inward collapse, this will often be referred as over-pronation.

This type of misalignment creates stress in the ankles and can cause lower leg problems like shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

Signs of over-pronation can be found in your everyday shoes.

If the soles of your shoes are worn out on the inner side, it is likely that you have this alignment problem.

Supination

Supination (the opposite of pronation and over-pronation) happens when the feet’s arch is far too high, causing the ankle and foot to roll outwards.

This type of misalignment also called over-supination, is caused because the foot doesn’t flatten enough (or at all, in severe cases) on impact when walking, running or standing up, so there’s little shock absorption.

Just like with pronation, you can check where your shoes are worn out; if you suffer from supination they’ll be worn on the outer side.

If you suffer from plantar fasciitis or any other misalignment related problem, a pair of high quality insoles like the ones mentioned above can make quite a great difference in how you feel and go about your day.

Notable Features

Heel cup design

Protalus insoles patented curved-shaped heel cup helps relieve pressure and shock by providing optimal contoured cushioning.

This unique design offers your foot a larger surface within the heel cup to redistribute the weight of your body with each step.

An easy way to understand how these insoles work is by comparing the difference of pressing the whole palm of your hand on your thigh vs. a single finger on it.

Though it is the same amount of weight, by having a larger surface to redistribute it, feels more comfortable.

TRI-Planar Technology

This proven technology used in Protalus Insoles aligns your body from the feet up with every step you take.

To create this innovative technology, Protalus has gathered a unique team of experts in biomechanics, podiatry, and other medical areas to create a product that can give the right amount of support.

The Tri-Planar technology used in every insole has been patented and clinically tested to ensure increased efficiency of your body.

The unique design allows for more support, less pain and less joint stress caused by misalignment.

By studying the foot’s three planes of motion (up and down, side to side and rotational) Protalus developed multi-layered insoles with a three point support system to conform to the foot natural way of moving and provide better alignment.

This three point system technology is how the insoles are created to reduce unsafe ranges of motion, by using force and counterforce to achieve optimal alignment in your ankle’s position.

More than correcting the misalignment by just placing a little cushioning under your foot’s arch, they go further by controlling the rotation of your ankle with their TRI-Planar Technology.

Highest quality materials

Part of the continuous research to develop Protalus insoles goes into their innovative combination of high quality materials that improve how you feel on your feet.

The mix of different materials provide impact reduction, superior alignment and moisture-wicking through their multi-layer design that contribute to overall comfort.

Support meets mobility

The unique design in these insoles is backed by years of biomechanical research, which in turn provides support and mobility in all the right places.

Compared to other insoles that tend to lock the foot in place with a rigid heel cup, Protalus allow you to move freely and easily without having to uncomfortably lock the foot in place.

Providing a top quality support to the sub-plantar joint, these insoles guide your foot through its natural movement while avoiding pronation or over supination.

Alignment

The main feature of protalus insoles and its greatest benefit.

By managing to align your feet, these insoles create an effect that ripples through your body’s entire kinetic chain, enhancing your performance and decreasing the amount of pain and fatigue caused by misalignment.

Cushioning

The type of cushioning system used by Protalus dampens impact and provides shock absorption with a soft yet firm footbed to keep you comfortable through the day.

Anti-Slip Ridges

The ridges of every Protalus insole are designed to securely anchor in your shoe, ensuring you the insole won’t move or slip during use.

This feature reduces movement within your shoe and offers a more consistent and higher degree of alignment and comfort throughout the day, as well as avoiding and unsafe movement that might cause injury.
